The electric vehicle (EV) market is swimming in charging cables. Each new EV or plug-in hybrid car comes with a cable, and there are at least a dozen manufacturers of aftermarket cables. The market is divided into two segments: at-home EV chargers and portable chargers designed to travel with the car.

Starting from Scratch
As a new entrant to the U.S. market, the ShockFlo brand had no brand equity. In addition, the ShockFlo marketing team did not have a clear understanding of the performance characteristics of competing brands. UPRAISE completed this research for both the S1 and G1, to ensure we promoted the superior performance of each product against its competitive set.
We then created a media kit containing product sheets for both products, bios of the senior executive team, comparison charts of ShockFlo and competing products, and related supporting content.
The goal of the S1 and G1 launch was to secure media coverage in 10-15 Tier 1 and trade media outlets.
To familiarize media with ShockFlo prior to issuing the press releases, we created a series of introductory emails that highlighted ShockFlo’s value proposition of providing high-performance EV chargers with features unavailable in other products at prices lower than competitors. We followed this up with a teaser email campaign around the “Prepared to be Shocked” theme and set up an ambitious schedule of pre-briefs with both new products and reviews editors. We distributed more than 15 of each charger to media who agreed to pre-briefs and to review the product.
We issued separate press releases for the two products approximately one month apart to avoid media refusing to cover one product because they had covered the other.
The Results
After distributing the releases, we earned a wave of coverage the first week due to the ambitious pre-brief strategy. The announcement earned a total of 26 original articles, surpassing the metrics in place by more than double.
Introducing the company to media prior to the launch, developing a theme that caught media attention and aggressive outreach and follow up resulted in strong results.

“We were pleased to enter a new market for ShockFlo and receive a strong reception with media that earned us a lot of coverage. It has helped us with our sales efforts significantly.”
